The Doctor is a Time Lord: a 900 year old alien with 2 hearts, part of a gifted civilization who mastered time travel. The Doctor saves planets for a living—more of a hobby actually, and the Doctor's very, very good at it.

Doctor Who this series may not be perfect in terms of history, however it has become a much more accessible program for the family, which is great and is exactly what it should be.
The Doctor in this series remembers David Tennant, while also bringing his own personality and characteristic quirks, so the gender change doesn't seem radical and Jodie is tremendously good.
The companions of this series are, for once, credible people with whom almost everyone can relate while having a lot of depth with them, which is something that Doctor Who has lacked in recent years.

The stories so far have been less complex than those in the previous series, which I personally like, while for some more dedicated Whovian you can describe the scripts as hollow, it's because they may be used to what might sometimes be called too complex. plots
I'm not saying the stories in this series are perfect, but I've certainly enjoyed them more than the previous series and they are the kind of episodes I would watch over and over again. While some SIFI elements still need work, the character development is outstanding.
The care that has been put into the production values of this series is also outstanding. This era of Doctor Who definitely remembers the Russell T Davies era mixed with a bit of Classic Who.
Russell T Davies could create slightly more complex stories while developing characters very well. I think if Chris Chibnall can create the plot to get a little more complex and upgrade the villains (not too complex like the Stephen Moffat stories) while continuing his outstanding character work, I think this could be at the level of the standard of the Russell T. Davies era.
So far, this series is my favorite since 2008
